Dear Editor,
Whenever I read or hear one of these high profile world leaders speak of justice I laugh. Your Sunday, September 2 edition carried a report about an Israeli spokesman saying that the US must show a tougher stance against Iran. Mind you, it is not Iran that bombed Iraq, it is not Iran that bombed Syria, it is not Iran that murdered 9 peace activists in international waters and it is not Iran that destroyed infrastructure in Gaza, yet these same people who commit these crimes want a tougher stance against Iran.
Of course the Iranians’ only sin is being fiercely independent. When the Shah was there Iran was a close associate of America and the Shah had to consult the American Ambassador on whatever he did. After the removal of the Shah the whole scenario changed, and it is not Iran making nuclear weapons that bothers America and Israel, it is just that the Iranians will not be dictated to. The US and its allies’ form of justice is ‘do as I say or be destroyed.’
Finally, I am indeed pleased that Guyana sent a representative to the recently held Non-Aligned Conference in Iran.
Yours faithfully,
WP George
