Dear Editor,
There was a recent letter, ‘An Obama defeat cannot be ruled out but is highly unlikely’ (September 2) by Wesley Kirton that was published in SN. I do remember in the ’70s-’80s there was a Guyanese news columnist at the Chronicle with that same name. I believe this person now lives in Florida. Bloggers are contending that the writer of this letter is a different person.
Who is right here?
Yours faithfully,
F Skinner
Editor’s note
We sent a copy of this letter to Mr Kirton for any comment he might wish to make and received the following response:
“I am in receipt of your letter from Mr Forbes Skinner. While I have no objection to futher identifying myself I am ‘flattered’ by the interest shown in who I really am. I thought the real interest would be in the issues raised rather than in the personality writing the letters.
“However, I will confirm that I worked first at the privately owned Guyana Graphic and later at the Chronicle newspaper back in the 1970s.
“I hope this clarifies for Mr Skinner and other bloggers my true identity, although many of them hide theirs. I have attached as indisputable evidence a clipping from an August 1976 article which bears my byline.”
