Lakhram Sugrim, the four-year-old boy who was struck down by a pick-up on Wednesday night as he was being towed by his father on a bicycle at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is recovering and remains a patient of the Georgetown Hospital Paediatric Unit, a relative said yesterday.
Lakhram, who sustained mainly head injuries, survived the accident that claimed the life of his father, Rajendra Sugrim, who was riding the bicycle.
Sugrim and his son were returning to their home after visiting an ice-cream parlour farther west along the public road when tragedy struck. An eyewitness had said that he was driving west along the Mon Repos Public road close to the market when he heard a loud bang. He said when he looked up he saw a bicycle being flung into a corner of the road while a man lay motionless on the ground.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was being questioned by police up to last evening.
