President of the International Muslim Organisation (IMO) of Canada Omar Farouk recently donated $400,000 to the Shaheed Boys and Girls Orphanages to boost its services to children.
The IMO, one of the largest Muslim institutions for people of Guyanese origin located in Toronto, Canada, has been making regular contributions to these institutions for years, a press release from Hakeem Khan, secretary to the Orphanages said.
The presentation was made in the presence of Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall and former MP and special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada Wajid Ali Khan.
Nandlall, in his brief address said he believes donations to charities should be publicised as it may serve as an example for others to emulate, as well as encourages accountability. He then lauded the IMO for its contribution. Khan said he was pleased to see the quality care being provided to the children at the Orphanages. In addition, President of the Orphanages Badruddin Hassan expressed profound gratitude to the IMO. He said since 2005 the Board has spent over $21M to repair and renovate the facility.
The Canadian delegation then attended a special dinner hosted in their honour by the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex. There the team was able to view the work currently ongoing to create a play area for Saturday night activities at the Complex. The project is being funded in part by Sterling Products Limited and Company Secretary Indar Singh who pledged the company’s continued support at the dinner.
