(Jamaica Gleaner) Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have recorded a historic win against the United States inside the National Stadium.
For the first time ever, the Jamaicans have beaten the Americans at the senior level after ending their World Cup qualifier 2-1 .
There had been 19 previous encounters between the US and Jamaica.
The Boyz were placed under pressure very early in the game after the Americans scored in the 36th second courtesy of Clint Dempsey.
But in minute number 23 Rudolph Austin scored from a low freekick to equalise and set the stadium on fire.
The teams went into half time 1-1 and when they returned, the anxious Jamaicans turned up the throttle.
Luton Shelton scored from 25 yards in the 60th minute to make it 2-1 for Jamaica.
Shelton’s strike was pure class as the ball curled over the wall and beyond the outstretched arms of the American goalkeeper.
