A man was on Thursday accused of pretending to be a taxi driver and later robbing a man he picked up.
It is alleged that on September 3, in Georgetown, Marvin Harte, being armed with an ice pick, robbed Denis Mondo of mobile phones, shoes and a silver chain, valued at $70,000 in total.
Harte pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution stated that on the day in question, at about 2am at Grove Public Road, Mondo was standing at the corner waiting for transportation when Harte approached him with his car and asked if he was travelling.
Mondo responded “yes” and joined the car where there were two other occupants. Harte demanded $300 as the fare but when he reached Supply, he allegedly exchanged places with one of the occupants and pointed a knife at Mondo while demanding his valuables.
The prosecution objected to bail due to the nature of offence. Harte was remanded and the case was transferred to Court One for September 21.
