(Trinidad Express) Republic Bank Ltd has passed on to the police information relating to a video showing an elderly man being savaged by two security guards at one of its automated teller machines (ATMs) at Centre City Mall, Chaguanas last year.
Yesterday, Republic Bank’s marketing and communications general manager Anna-Maria Garcia-Brooks told the Express that the names of the security guards, who were employed with a security company linked to the mall, have been passed on to the police.
Garcia-Brooks said the bank had a private investigator analyse the footage and it was deduced that the incident occurred at the bank’s ATM branch at Centre City Mall.
The security company employed at the mall is Unit One Security Ltd, and its managing director Michael Hosam said that the two men involved in the incident are no longer employed at the company.
Hosam said they were dismissed prior to the airing of the video in relation to another incident.
The video, which went viral this week on social networking sites, appeared to be filmed by one of the suspects, using a camera-phone.
The victim of the attack was identified yesterday as 50-year-old mentally challenged Selwyn Seepaul, who was knocked down and killed in a hit-and-run accident in Chaguanas last December.
While there are closed circuit television cameras installed in the bank, Garcia-Brooks said the bank no longer had footage from the incident, which occurred in May 2011.
Yesterday, however, Superintendent Johnny Abraham of the Central police division said police were not investigating the incident or searching for the perpetrators in the video since no formal report was made for the police to act upon.
The Express was also told that the video was not yet in the hands of the Cyber Crime Unit of the Police Service.
