Sandeep Chand and his partner Godfrey Lowden got past siblings Seanden and Saevion David-Longe in the men’s doubles category when the first matches of the annual Trophy Stall Doubles Tennis Tournament commenced Friday at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel courts.
Chan who won the men’s category last year with partner Andre Lopes, has teamed up with Lowden and the pair got off to a bright start by defeating the Longe brothers 7 – 5, 6 – 0 while junior players Benedict Sukra and Khalif Gobin defeated Andrew Sawh and Andrew Hook 6 – 0, 6 – 3 in another men’s doubles encounter.
In the other men’s doubles matches, Daniel Lopes and Nicholas Glasgow had an easy time against Ryan Cumberbatch and partner Seweon McGarrell, winning 6 – 1, 6 – 0.
In the curtain raiser, Darren King and Chris Lewis got the better of Dennis Barrington and Kizzy Richmond 6 – 1 in a novice medley doubles, while in another novice doubles Irzad Zamal and Sunny Maikoo received a walk over fron Orande Dainty and Charles Adams.
The competition continued on Saturday when Chand was scheduled to play a mixed doubles match with partner Thi Fernandes against Alicia DeAbreu and Andrew Sawh.
The competition is scheduled to continue next weekend.
