Northern Rangers are the 2012 Grassroots Under-13 champs coming out winners by virtue of having a better goal average in the competition played Saturday at Banks DIH Limited Thirst Park ground.
Northern Rangers won four games to edge out second place finisher Fruta Conquerors after scoring a total of four goals to three by Fruta Conquerors. Third was Kingston Grassroots followed by Pele in fourth place.
Organiser Dennis `Chow’ Hunte said that the championship was a good one with the best team winning.
“This championship is not about size, but technique and skill. So you should not give up but keep playing and you will improve.”
Coordinator of the tournament Junior Forrester said despite not getting full support he was still pleased that the tournament was able to come off successfully.
Only the four teams turned up on Saturday for the championship.
Some 10 teams were invited but many requested and were given letters and received the relevant permission according to the Georgetown Football Association to participate.
Forrester could not say why the other team failed to put in an appearance, but said he was nevertheless pleased with the level of play he saw from the four teams that did compete.
