Once again both games in the Carib Beer and Friends of Cricket Heroes Cup first division two-day competition were completed before 3pm on Sunday’s second day as the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) completed convincing victories over the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Everest Cricket Club respectively.
Everest Cricket Club had endured a torrid time on day one at Thomas Lands and although Amir Khan offered a brief fight back, home team Malteenoes cantered to victory by eight wickets.
Everest Cricket Club was boosted by the return of West Indies Under 19 World Cup player Khan, national player Rajendra Chandrika and Chanderpaul Hemraj.
Their return however, failed to pay dividends.
Everest had found themselves on the brink of defeat after Saturday’s play when they were dismissed for 97 all out to which Malteenoes responded with a total of 177 for an 80-run lead.
In the Everest CC’s first innings, Carlos La Rose’s run out dismissals of
Christopher Patadin with a direct hit from backward square and Chandrika put them in a position from which they never recovered.
Kellon Carmichael, who had the prized wicket of Hemraj clean bowled, ended with 3-40 while Seon Daniels and Steven Jacobs picked up two wickets each.
In Malteenoes first innings, Imran Hassan struck 52 with 10 fours while Jacobs and Carmichael chipped in with 28 and 26 runs respectively.
Javed Rasheed finished with 4-40, Khan 3-53 and Damian Vantull, 2-36.
Batting a second time, Everest reached 152 all out with Khan slamming 68 with seven fours and one six while Vantull supported with 17.
Bowling for Malteenoes, Daniels, Sankar and Jacobs each collected two wickets.
Malteenoes were led to victory by Orin Forde who hit an unbeaten 57 with seven fours and three sixes as Malteenoes eventually reached 75-2 in only 12.4 overs.
Over in Queenstown at the DCC ground, Transport Sports Club were blown away by an innings and 63 runs.
GNIC batted first on day one and compiled 379-9 with Shawn DeSouza striking 140 an innings that included 11 fours and nine sixes.
Opener Marc Nicholson fell for 80 nine fours and five sixes while Ranole Bourne (40), Collis Butts (27) and Orlando Fraser (26) were also among the runs.
Ewert Samuels had 3 for 60 while Shae Chase picked up two wickets.
Transport Sports Club, 122-3 by close of play was all out for 187.
Quinn Proctor top scored with 35 as leg-spinner Bourne picked up 5 for 41 and off-spinner Orlando Fraser 4 for 30.
Following on, TSC went to lunch on 4 for 47 before being dismissed for 129 in 35.3 overs. Leon Peters scored 45 and Sherwin Lovell 37.
Rawle Merrell took 5-23 runs in the second innings for GNIC, supported by R Simmons who captured 2 for 19.
