A century from national Under-15 batsman Sherfane Rutherford was the highlight of the latest round of the New Building Society (NBS) limited overs second division competition last weekend.
In Zone `A’ Vikings lost to Third Class at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) ground while Everest Cricket Club easily dispatched the Guyana National Industrial Corpor-ation (GNIC) at the GNIC ground.
In Zone `B’ Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) completed an easy win over Ace Warriors at the MYO ground.
At the MYO ground the home team won the toss and rattled up 240-9 in 37 overs.
Zamal Khan hit 13 fours in the topscore of 62 while Richard Latiff made 51 with six fours. Abdullah Wazid Ali supported with 41 while Abdul Kadir chipped in with 28.
Ryan Jones collected 2 for 42, and P Sooklall 3 for 37.
IN reply, Ace Warriors were all out for 143 in 30 overs to lose by 97 runs.
L. Douglas top scored with 44 while Mortland Ward scored 24 and R. Hercules 28. Shaheed Gittens collected 3 for 38, Imtiaz Pooran 3 for 29, and Mohamed Wazid Ali 3 for 39. Over at GNIC, Everest won the toss and chose to field. GNIC proceeded to score 190 all out with Jermaine Grovesnor striking eight fours in the top score of 71 while Jason George supported with 41 (two fours and three sixes) and Cyrus Gibson scored 23.
Andrew Lovell collected 3 for 50 and Shaheed Mohamed had 2 for 22.
Opening batsman Sherfane Rutherford then hit an aggressive 100 not out as Everest reached the victory target by seven wickets in just 26 overs.
At YMCA, Third Class won the toss and fielded against Vikings who scored 250-9 in their allotted 40 overs.
Alvin Castello bludgeoned 65 with eight sixes while openers Imran Hussein and Trevor Hussein made 30 and 32 runs respectively. Blair Haynes had 3 for 54, J. Samuels 3 for 40, and S. Alexander 2 for 42.
Third Class fell short of their target by 41 runs scoring 209 all out in 33 overs. R . Persaud made 65 but failed to receive adequate support. S. Alexander contributed 21 as R. Bryan had a haul of 5 for 46 from a mere seven overs and Castello collected 3 for 47.
