A driver/salesman was yesterday accused of stealing over $700,000 in goods from his employer, some of which were allegedly recovered at his home.
Keshan Persaud, 20, of Lot 133 Section CC Eccles, was arraigned before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of break and enter and larceny.
Persaud pleaded not guilty.
It was alleged that between August 23 and September 8, Persaud, a driver/salesman attached to the Guyana Trading Company Limited, stole a large quantity of energy drinks, cases of corn, tins of mixed vegetables, gallons of bleach, a case of bath soap and cases of peanut butter. The goods totalled $751,520 in value and were the property of the company.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that the discovery of the theft was made after the company’s bond clerk checked off her daily inventory and secured the bond. Mansfield said that the next morning, she went to open the bond and discovered a broken window and found items missing and witnesses identified Persaud as the person who entered the premises.
According to Mansfield, Persaud was then contacted and during a search done at his home some of the items were recovered.
The prosecution had no objections to bail, which was set at $100,000.
The case was adjourned to September 17, when it will be called in Court One.
