Police have issued a wanted bulletin for Terry Andrew Joseph in relation to robbery under arms and piracy.
Joseph aka “Spanish Man” is suspected to be part of a gang which carried out a series of pirate attacks last weekend on fishermen in the Pomeroon River and the Waini in Region One.
The 28-year-old man is described as of mixed descent, 5’7” in height and his last address was given as Lot 6 Farm, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Joseph can contact the police on telephone numbers: 225-8196, 226-1326, 227-1270, 225-6411, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station. All information will be treated with strict confidence, the police stated.
On Saturday, several masked men attacked and robbed several fishermen who were fishing in the Pomeroon River and later that evening , several other fishers were attacked off the Waini Coast in Region One by a group of armed, masked men.
The attacks promoted calls by the fishing industry on the authorities to deliver on promises made to remedy the problem and fishermen at the Meadowbank wharf in the city had planned to cease their operations for several days in protest at the situation.
In the wee hours of Monday morning, the police launched an operation in the Barima/Waini area and arrested three of five suspected pirates during an operation in which the police were met with resistance by the men in the vicinity of the Waini Coast, some 20 miles north of Moruca.
The three pirates were taken into custody by police at the Charity Police Station and they are expected to be placed before the courts shortly.
The police clarified yesterday that the operation was undertaken by its ranks and did not involve the GDF Coastguard as was reported.
