In its continued effort to promote domestic tourism the Guyana Tourism Authority in association with the Ministry of Tourism treated 15 more Guyanese to an all-expenses paid journey to the Kaieteur National Park.
According to a GTA press release, last week, Jessica Anthony, Jennel Cadogan, Deowattie Narine, Meikel Mahabir, Bibi Ameena Nazaralie, Aadah Bacchus, Benedict Sukra and Karran Singh, this year’s top CSEC performers were among the lucky few to visit the falls. The remaining individuals were winners of competitions held by the Guyana Tourism Authority during the Berbice and International Building Expos that took place earlier this year.
The participants were excited to be able to view the scenery during the flight to and from the park. Once there, a guided tour by Lawerence Gibson, their knowledgeable tour guide enabled them to appreciate the splendour of the highest per volume drop waterfall in the world, as well as the Golden Dart Frog, one of the many treasures hidden throughout the park.
This endeavour highlights the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism to ensuring that Guyanese can explore and experience the country’s beauty, the release said.
The Kaieteur Falls, located in the Potaro River in the Siparuni Region stands at 741 feet and is the most exciting attraction in Guyana. The flora and fauna surrounding the area is actually part of the park and covers an area approximately 627 square kilometres. It also occupies a prominent position in the centre of the Guyana shield.
