A protest launched by Santos Football Club against Fruta Conquerors Football Club is holding back the start of the Banks DIH Super League tournament.
That matter is before the General Council of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA). The General Council is the highest decision making body in the GFA.
The protest was launched before the culmination of the Banks President’s Beer League which saw Santos protesting that a point given to Fruta Conquerors was unfairly awarded.
However, a source close to the GFA, informed this publication that at the last General Council meeting, officials of the GFA were told that they should sort out the internal wrangling before the body begins discussing the protest before it.
The Banks DIH Super 8 tournament should have started some two Fridays ago but, the current matter played a part in the postponement of the tournament.
Yesterday several clubs were contacted and some said that they are still awaiting word from the GFA as to the when the tournament would start. Teams were in training prior to the original date set by the GFA which was September 7 last.
This publication is still unable to get an official of the GFA to say what is the position with the Banks Super 8 tournament and whether the impasse between the GFA and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has any part to play in the postponement of the tournament or if the GFA still has the full support of the 14 teams currently affiliated to the association.
Alpha United, Pele and Western Tigers are three teams who have pulled out from participating in GFA run tournaments. Alpha United, the number one football team was the last team to sever its allegiance to the GFA.
