Mark Holder is definitely something of value, especially when it comes to the Guyanese music industry. From not returning to Guyana in over twenty years, Mark Holder plans on coming back with a BANG! As he prepares an eight-day musical tour at the end of October promoting his new hit song and video “Something of Value”.
The song “Something of Value” pays tribute to all women. Mark Holder said the message in his song is basically saying that all women across the world are Something of Value to somebody, no matter what race, colour, religion or country she is from.
The Scene in an online interview asked Mark if he plans on tackling social issues like violence against women on his tour, since it is at a pivoting point in Guyana’s history. He said “In more than one way, my song deals with love, kindness and care for women. Some of the lyrics are: ‘Broken hearted when I am tired and restless always a soft comforting word.’ I must say that violence on the whole is wrong… To beat and batter the mother of your children, it is not right. In my shows I will be singing songs pertaining to love, kindness and peace. Over the years I have always reached out to people in pain and distress.”
He said that his inspiration to write the song was his mother and all beautiful women of the world, but his biggest motivation as an artiste is his fans. “For if there were no fans, there would be no show. My job is to tell stories through my music, to make some people happy, to take away their sadness, to see them dance, to make them fall in love with my songs.”
He is not only coming back to his homeland for musical interests, on and after the tour he plans on interacting with the people and with many of his friends. He plans on visiting many sites across the country and viewing many parts of Guyana, which he “misses and loves dearly.”
Touching on his video, he said it was planned eight months ago to go with the track he worked on for about three years. It was recorded in Canada and directed by Guyanese-Canadian Christopher Calderia (son of Guyanese Entertainer, Paul Calderia). The backup singers who appear in the video are all Guyanese-Canadian young ladies. He mentioned that the idea was to make it not only old-school but to get the attention of the younger fans by including a rap bridge.
Mark would like to express thanks to God for giving him the talent, and thanks all fans for listening and supporting his record sales. He promises all that they will have a good time at his tour in October. He urges his fans to pray for world peace and love and togetherness. (Jairo Rodrigues)
