COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, CMC West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle has moved into the second position in the latest ICC Twenty20 player rankings for batsmen.
Gayle has moved up two places from 4th to be on 744 ratings points, just 49 less than current world number one Brendan Maccalum of New Zealand.
Gayle, who averaged 69 runs in the recent Twenty/20 matches against New Zealand, is the only West Indian player in the top 20 of the batting rankings.
West Indies captain Darren Sammy is ranked 12th among the bowlers having moved up a notch.
Pakistan off-spinner Saaed Ajmal has taken over as the number one ranked bowler in Twenty20.
West Indies heads into the ICC World Twenty20 ranked fourth on the championship team table behind leaders England, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The Reliance ICC T20 Rankings were release Thursday after the latest Twenty/20 series involving England against South Africa, India vs. New Zealand and Pakistan and Australia.
