Both games in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Carib Beer Heroes Cup finished in draws yesterday due to inclement weather.

At Queenstown, rain prevented an exciting climax to the game between Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) with GYO 80 runs away from a come-from-behind victory.

GYO resuming on their overnight score of 134-2 after a lengthy rain delay, in reply to GNIC’s first innings score of 305 all out,  batted a further 27 overs before being dismissed for 177.

Collis Butts picked up 6 for 43 in a marathon spell of 28 overs of which 15 were maidens while Premchand Sookdeo picked up 3 for 22.

Batting a second time, GNIC found the pace of Leon Scott testing.

Scott yorked Marc Nicholson with his first delivery before having Sookdeo caught at second slip two balls later. Scott took two more wickets to help reduce to GNIC to 24-6 before they declared their innings closed with a lead of 148. Abilash Dookie took the other two wickets for GYO, who batted aggressively to reach 76 -1 by the close of play.

Brian Sattaur hit 44 before being the only GYO batsman dismissed. Despite the final hour’s fiasco’s the game ended in a draw.

On the first day Elton Baker had struck 164 to help GNIC reach their first innings score of 305.

At Thomas Lands, Transport Sports Club were 3 for 15 when heavy rainfall brought an early end to the match against Malteenoes.

Malteenoes SC had ended Saturday’s first day in the strong position after dismissing TSC for 133 and making 218 all out in their first innings.

The competition continues next weekend.
