Two men were yesterday accused of the simple larceny of mercury, for which they were placed on $80,000 bail after they pleaded not guilty.
Porter Harry Persaud, 33, of Lot 415 Belle West Housing Scheme, and farmer Alwin Williams, 33, of Grove, Caneville, were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on September 15, in George-town, they stole a quantity of mercury, costing $375,000 in total. It was the property of Genie De Sars.
No details of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.
Prosecution had no objection to bail, which was set at $80,000 each by the court.
The case was adjourned until October 8, when it will be called at Court One.
