The Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA), a component of the Labour Ministry said it was successful in finding employment for thousands of Guyanese last year and similar results are expected this year.
Over the period 2009 to 2010, the CRMA increased its job placement rate by 11 per cent from a total of 2,023 to 2,270, the ministry said in a press release. During this period, registration also increased by 10 per cent from 2,732 to 3,003 as well as vacancy notifications, which increased from 2,479 to 2,972.
Minister of Labour, Dr Nanda Gopaul, was quoted as saying that he is encouraging more business entities, private and public, to register with the CRMA. He said “we have been able to place a few thousands in jobs last year and this year we are hoping to do the same.”
CRMA made its services available online in 2010 through a public and private modernization and e-governance programme that allow persons with access to the internet to make submissions if they are seeking employment from anywhere in the country, the release stated.
Employers can also access the service by placing their vacancies online. The ministry also caters for persons who do not have access to the internet by partnering with regional administrations to provide hard copies of application forms for job seekers.
