The Pitbulls dominated the first set of games of the Mackeson 3-on3 Smooth Moves tournament last Sunday when the tournament’s second edition tipped off at the Albouystown hardcourt.
Boasting players such as Akeem ‘The Dream’ Kanhai and Ryan Gullen and Ryan Stephanie, Pitbulls won two out of three games to advance to the next round of the competition.
The rules of the 3-on-3 are a bit different as a two point shot from within the arc will be counted as one while three pointers from beyond the arc will count as two.
Gullen was on fire in the first game burying shots from beyond the arc to enable Pitbulls to be the first and only team thus far to reach the mark of 21 points which ends the game even before time expires. The Pitbulls defeated the Nets 21-8.
They later downed the Chronics 18-12 where their rebounding skills were on display resulting in a bunch of second chance points before falling short to the hometown team in Above the Rim 9-10 as their stars went cold from the field.
Nets was the second team to advance to the next round after gaining a free pass since one team did not show up. They also defeated the home town team in Above the Rim which was the decider between the two teams. Above the Rim received a dose of their own medicine losing 9-10 to the Nets.
While the home team was booted out of the competition they also won two of three matches displaying great ball skills in the process as they downed the Pitbulls 10-9 and the Chronics 10-8.
Earlier in the evening Public Relation Officer of ANSA McAL Darshee Yusuf thanked the teams for coming out and pledged ANSA McAL’s commitment to the development of the sport while wishing the teams well for the tournament.
