Patrick Haynes was yesterday remanded to prison to await sentencing for the wounding of his stepson.
Haynes, 55, admitted to unlawfully and maliciously wounding his stepson, Kevin James, who he attacked while he was asleep.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, that James was in his room sleeping on Monday when his stepfather went and dealt lashes to different parts of his body, causing him injuries.
When given the opportunity to speak, Haynes explained that a couple of days prior to the attack, James had broad-sided him on his foot with a cutlass, causing him injuries.
Chief Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry asked the prosecution to view the medical statement, but Mansfield said it was lodged at the police outpost.
As a result, the magistrate remanded Haynes to prison to accommodate the prosecution to get the medical testimonial so that she can make a decision on penalty.
The matter will be called again today in Court One.
