In keeping with the Guyana Prison Service Strategic Plan 2010-2015 to enhance the security of prison estates and prisoners, the Ministry of Home Affairs said today that the Government gave approval for the Guyana Prison Service to employ an additional thirty-eight persons as Assistant Prison officers with effect from August 2012.
A release from the ministry said that these persons will be trained and posted to appropriate locations in the GPS to strengthen the existing staff at these locations.
There have been numerous break-outs from prisons over the years and complaints that there aren’t enough officers.
