Half a million dollars, a trophy and nine gold medals will be up for grabs when F and H Printing Establishment in collaboration with the Georgetown Dominoes Association hosts the inaugural countrywide ‘Million Dollar Plus’ dominoes competition.
The competition, which will run for six weeks, commences on Sunday at Transport Ground on Thomas Lands. It was formally launched yesterday at the printing establishment in Campbellville.
According to the organizers of the event they will be soliciting teams from public and private sector entities coming from as far as Linden, East Bank Essequibo, Mahaica, Mahaicony, the Essequibo Islands, Mahdia, Ituni, Kwakwani, Bartica and the East Bank Demerara among other areas.
Colin McEwan, organizer of the tournament stated that they are expecting at least 300 teams from across Guyana. He further stated that the zone system will be used and there will be special zones for corporations, ministries and business places in Georgetown and its immediate environs. The World Council of Dominoes Federation rules will be used and there will be zero tolerance on indiscipline.
“We all know that dominoes is a bottom-house game. So our intention is to promote dominoes and put it back to where it was,” Mc Ewan stated. Proprietor of F&H Printery Fazil Hakh said he was very happy to be the main sponsor of the tournament. He wished all of the teams success and said he hopes that everything goes well. Sponsorship will cost F&H Printery roughly $2.7 million.
President of the Georgetown Dominoes Association Orin Joseph said he was very pleased to be associated and involved with the tournament since it was one of the biggest domino competitions.
All teams registering on or before September 30, will be required to pay $8,000; the registration fee will be $9,000 per team after the mentioned date. The first runner-up will receive $250,000, a trophy and nine silver medals, while the second, third and fourth and fifth runners-up will receive $100,000, $60,000, $35,000, and $25,000 respectively. Each of these teams will also receive a trophy and nine bronze medals.
Prizes will also be given to the zone winners ($10,000), MVP, first double love (playoffs), best females (playoffs), first love (finals), best performing team from far reaching areas and best uniformed team.
