The Youth Coalition for Transformation (YCT) is expected to broaden its outreach to youths in various communities after it received a donation of laptop and desktop computers from overseas-based Guyanese Sahaboob Yassin yesterday.
The donation, which took place at the Agricola Community Centre building, and amounts to around US$15,000, saw the handing over of six computers, five laptops, a public address system, printers and computer accessories. The computers and accessories will be used to assist youths, primarily those who are preparing to leave secondary school, to become more computer literate.
Along with the donation, Yassin, who is an activist in the area of youth development, has also sponsored the months of snacks for the ongoing academic after-school programme that YCT is currently hosting for youths in the Agricola community.
Explaining the thought behind the donation, Yassin said he wanted to help young people mature in Guyana, and that his donation would help the organisation to grow. He also stated that he has plans to assist similar organisations in Region Six in the following weeks. President of YCT Jermaine Grant said the computers will be used for computer classes they are planning to start in the next two to three weeks for youths in areas like Agricola and Enmore. He added, “we appreciate the donation which will strengthen YCT” and make the services it provides more accessible. Yassin’s generosity to the YCT is nothing new, since he has reached out to organizations such as the Transport Cricket Club, to which he donated cricket gear.
