Aggresive batting from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) batsmen, followed by a typically attacking innings from Andrew Lyght Jr, left the GDF and the Demerara Cricket Club Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Heroes Cup first division competition delicately poised.
At the close of play yesterday, DCC closed on 1 for 115, still 245 runs adrift of GDF’s first innings score.
GDF won the toss and bated against the home team and opener Shemroy Barrington led the charge in a stand of 68 with Isaiah Bijaddar before the latter was the first batsman to be dismissed. GDF then lost a second wicket at 79 before Barrington and Dillon Heyliger featured in a useful partnership.
Barrington eventually fell for 66 off the bowling of Totaram Bishun striking 10 fours and a six. Heyliger later fell for 63 with eight fours and two sixes, bowled by Paul Wintz while Marcus Watkins hit his way to 45 with eight boundaries and a maximum. The lower order contributed quick runs for GDF as Randy Lindore found useful support from number 10 Maxwell Fraser and the pair took the score from 230 to 353. Lindore struck 62 with four fours and a six while Fraser hit out in 63 with eight fours and two sixes to spur GDF to 360 all out in 67.5 overs. Wintz finished with 2 for 62 while Bishun endured a tougher day at the office with his 5 wicket haul costing 131 runs from 24.5 overs.
DCC began their hunt for first innings’s honours solidly before losing their first wicket at 80 when Andrew Gibson was leg before wicket to Dennis Legay for 12. The opening partnership was dominated by Andrew Lyght Jr. Number three batsman Jahron Byron remained not out at the close on 16, while Lyght will resume tomorrow on 71.
DCC will be hunting full points in an effort to finish the tournament as close as possible to Malteenoes Sports Club currently in the lead with 152 points.
