Dear Editor,
A few years ago commuters on the East Bank road had just one single lane to the city – ie one up and one down Then came the dual carriageway which permitted a faster flow of traffic. However, with the advent of new housing areas on both the East and West Banks along with the acquisition of motor vehicles by citizens, there is gridlock at certain peak hours of the day. Also motorists use the road in a most indiscriminate and undisciplined manner, which is evident from the numerous accidents.
There is need for another traffic light between Eccles and, say, Houston or better, Ruimveldt to replace the manual control by traffic cops at the Harbour Bridge and Ruimveldt areas.
Also consideration should be given to accelerating plans for the construction an alternative road to the city since more housing development is anticipated.
The East Bank is a major road to the airport, interior and Linden, not forgetting the Harbour Bridge for those who live on the West Bank.
I trust that my suggestions would be acted on some time soon.
Yours faithfully,
