Carib Beer Heroes Cup…

Wicketkeeper/batsman Derwin Christian on Sunday hit his third century of the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Carib Beer/Friends of Cricket Heroes Cup competition while left-arm spinner Totaram Bishun bagged a 10-wicket haul in the Demerara Cricket Club’s drawn encounter against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) at the DCC ground in Queenstown.
GDF won the toss and batted on Saturday and scored 360 all out.
Opener Shemroy Barrington topscored with 66 which included 10 fours and one six while Dillon Heyliger scored 63 which included eight fours and two sixes.
Marcus Watkins blasted a quickfire 45 with eight boundaries and a maximum while Randy Lindore struck 62 with four fours and one six and number 10 batsman Maxwell Fraser, 63, with eight fours and two sixes.
Bishun picked up 5-131 runs from 24.5 overs while Paul Wintz finished with 2 for 62.
DCC in reply reached 363-9 declared with Christian slamming 111 and Andrew Lyght Jr., 79. Left-arm spinner Dennis Legay picked up 4 for 68 from 19 overs for the GGDF. GDF, batting a second time with a deficit of just three runs lost opener Isiah Bijaddar for a duck. But Barrington batted well before holing out for 64 off the bowling of Orlando Sturge.
Dilon Heyliger hit a few long balls before perishing for 53, caught at long on off the bowling of Bishun while M.Haynes contributed 23. Bishun bowled Lindore to pick up his fifth wicket as the batsman played back to a chinaman. Bishun ended with 5-68 from 11 overs while Surge supported with 2 for 41 as GDF declared on 8 for 155 in 29.4 overs leaving DCC with just three overs to bat which they safely negotiated as openers Jahron Byron and Dexter George collected 18 runs.
Vhristian ended the competition as the leading run scorer and Bishun the leading wicket taker.
DCC, who will finish the tournament in second place, won on first innings but will rue not having enough time to push for an outright win.
