The National Trust of Guyana along with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport yesterday launched the annual Heritage Week celebration under the theme ‘A Reflection of Our Heritage’, at the National Museum.
The celebration, which is in its 40th year, will run from September 24 to October 5 at the National Museum where various exhibitions on Agriculture, Growth and Development, Socio-cultural and Industrial heritages will be on exhibit. A public lecture by Architect Saskia Hard, who is the wife the United States Ambassador to Guyana, will be held at the Umana Yana on October 3 at 2 pm as part of the celebrations.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, who declared the exhibition open, commended the ministry.
Culture Minister Dr Frank Anthony said that the work the National Trust is doing on heritage sites allows Guyanese to go visit and enjoy them. “Apart from the tangible heritage we also focus on the intangible ones which make us unique as a country,” he added.
National Trust representative, Nadia Madu, said the exhibition planned for heritage week celebration is designed to sensitize, reflect and refresh Guyanese about what Guyana has to offer. She also told those in attendance that she hopes everyone values what is showcased.
