Projected demands for labour over the next three years and sectors with the greatest potential for new enterprise development were highlighted in a Labour Market Assessment (LMA), which was made public recently.
These results were shared with stakeholders at a USAID/ Guyana Skills and Knowledge for Youth Employment (SKYE) seminar, which also established the Employment Sector Advisory Group (ESAG) and oriented its membership, a press release from the US Embassy indicated.
The SKYE project’s beneficiaries are school drop-outs, youth who have completed formal education or training but do not have the necessary skills to find employment, and youth involved in the juvenile justice system, the press release said.
The ESAG will play a direct role in improving the employment capabilities of vulnerable and at-risk youths. Members will provide guidance and participate in project activities, identify employment sector alliances to maximise project resources, and assist the project team in identifying employment opportunities for at-risk youth beneficiaries.
US Ambassador Brent Hardt says the USAID/Skye Project focuses on strengthening an environment that fosters youth development and facilitating the reintegration of high-risk populations into society, according to the release.
Meanwhile, the seminar provided an opportunity for partners to review and validate data generated from the LMA. Participants were drawn from the private and public sectors and academia. The initial findings of the LMA also highlighted the key entry points into the workforce for SKYE’s target beneficiaries in both formal and informal sectors in regions Four, Six, Nine and Ten, the release said.
