(de Ware Tijd) ROTTERDAM – Dutch enterprises are expressing a growing interest in outsourcing to Suriname. Outsourcing means that companies let their partners in other countries provide services to their customers. This provides many benefits to them.
In the case of Suriname, there is no language barrier; wages are relatively lower than in the Netherlands and labor laws are less strict, while the fiscal facilities are better. These are some of the aspects mentioned yesterday at the seminar “Doing Business with Suriname” to get Dutch businesses interested in outsourcing to Suriname. Dennis Lapar, director of Finance Suriname, which organizes this seminar every year, says that in the coming years, dozens of Dutch companies could invest in Suriname with good promotion.
Suriname and Curacao could join forces to interest those companies in outsourcing to them. Lapar has no indication how many Dutch companies are currently outsourcing activities in Suriname. “Yet I can say the interest is growing and we could get many companies to Suriname with the right promotion.” Lawyer Humphrey Schurman and professor Tony Caram were among the speakers at the seminar. Caram held a presentation about economic developments in Suriname, while Schurman held one on the legal and fiscal aspects of investing in Suriname, as well as on Suriname’s labor laws.
The seminar included an Internet session via Skype with the Hakrinbank’s Rafiq Sheoradj Panday and Terence Gonesh, who presented an overview of the banking sector in Suriname and the services this bank provides. The Hakrinbank has made itself available as a partner in the outsourcing plans of the Dutch companies.
