Green foliage plants will give you all-year-round pleasure with very little work. They will brighten up your home whether they stand alone or form a group or a cluster in any corner or open space.
When choosing your plants, look for striking patterns and bold colours of different shades of green. Sometimes, the exotic nature of the plant also lies in the different shape of the leaves.
If you are planning a decorative corner, make sure your plants are in the right size pots, and then arrange them so each of them is set off to advantage.
Since you might be choosing more than one variety of plant, you must first find out from the vendor (or the internet) about the type of soil each plant likes. You would also need to know how much direct sunlight they like (if any), without scorching their leaves.
Nearly all foliage indoor plants should be misted daily, and watered once or twice a week. Use a standard fertilizer like Miracle Gro All Purpose and slow release Osmocote.
Wipe the plants’ leaves with a damp cloth, which will remove any dust which may have built up, and keep them glossy by using Miracle Gro Leaf Shine.
You should trim your plants and remove damaged leaves with a sharp pruner.
In addition, don’t forget to check for insects; however, you will find that healthy plants are more resistant to attacks by pests.
Last but not least, refresh plants by putting them outside for some dew and rain. You will be amazed how fresh they look after this.
Here are some examples of plants that you can group together:-
Ivies, Aglaonema, Song of India, Song of Jamaica, Philodendron, Palms, Dracena, Ficus, Dieffenbachia;
Sansevieria, Dracena Frangs – Corn Plants and Spider Plants.
Until next week, Happy Gardening!
