The Guyana Baseball League Home Run Derby which was scheduled to begin today has been postponed to a future date.
According to a release from the organisers, even though “support for the event has been significant, entries have not been strong enough to ensure the event’s financial success.”
The release, from president of the GBL, Robin Singh, also stated that the GBL was thankful to supporters of the event and “will contact entrants to arrange refunds.”
The GBL stated in the release that it has “revised its approach to the introduction of baseball and softball based on feedback from those interested in participating in its league teams.
Accordingly, funds allocated to prize money for the Home Run derby event will be redirected to coaching education programmes and equipment distribution,” the release from Singh stated.
