The family of Jennifer Persaud, the woman who was found murdered along with her two children at Anna Catherina, said that they are uncomfortable with the suspects being released from police custody.
Persaud, 41, and her sons Afridi Bacchus, 6, and Jadon Persaud, 18 months, were discovered on Saturday evening in the woman’s bedroom with stab wounds and slit throats.
The woman was found lying in a pool of blood on her bed, clad in nightwear, with the body of the older child on her. The infant was found on the ground beside the bed also in a pool of blood with his neck partially severed.
The two suspects who were held by the police in connection with the gruesome triple homicide were released on Wednesday last. One of the men, the father of Persaud’s youngest child, was taken into custody soon after the bodies were discovered.
They are required to report to the police each day as investigations continue.
Yesterday, Amanda Persaud, one of the deceased woman’s daughters, said that police has told the family that blood-stained pants were recovered from the second’s suspect’s home, which is a short distance away from her mother’s house.
“The police say they find he pants soak with blood,” the girl said, adding that this, along with the younger boy’s birth certificate, which was also found at the man’s home, were sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
She noted that police are awaiting this evidence to be returned before further investigations are carried out.
According to Amanda, the police advised the family that the suspects could not be held any longer until there is further evidence or until “they make a problem”. “Is right at 6th Street he (main suspect) deh so of course we will feel uncomfortable. He does be by a rumshop every day close by to here too,” she added.
The mother of six was the owner of a thriving liquor store in her community, but had shared a tumultuous two-year relationship with her partner, neighbours and relatives reported.
She had recently evicted him after a fight.
Relatives on Saturday became worried after they had not heard from the woman all day and calls to her home went unanswered and they travelled from the East Bank Demerara to check on her.
After calls still went unanswered, relatives entered the house and made the gruesome discovery.
