Shaik Baksh new GWI CEO

Former government minister Shaik Baksh has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) an entity which in the past had been under his portfolio.

His appointment was made over one week ago Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali last night confirmed to Stabroek News.

News of Baksh’s appointment began circulating abouttwo weeks ago when his frequent presence on the premises was noticed.

When asked who appointed Baksh the housing minister would only say that he was appointed.

It is the board of directors of the utility company that is responsible for appointing its head. Calls to the Chairman of Board Ramesh Dookhoo went unanswered and Public Relations Officer of the company Timothy Austin would not comment on the issue.

On the company’s website there is no name listing of a CEO but it gives the names of senior and divisional management team.

Baksh, who succeeds Nigel Niles as CEO, previously served as minister of education from 2006-2011 and as minister of housing and water in the administration before that 2001- 2006.
