The Board of the Guyana Water Incorporated yesterday issued a statement welcoming former Minister of Water, Shaik Baksh as the new CEO of the utility.
The statement came a day after a report appeared in Stabroek News that Baksh had been appointed last month. Up to yesterday there had been no statement from the government or GWI on the appointment.
The GWI statement quoted Baksh as saying “My extensive years in Guyana’s water sector have provided me with unique insight into areas which are currently underperforming …for GWI to succeed it must begin implementing tools for increased revenue as well as improving services which it provides to customers”.
As Minister of Water, Baksh had ministerial responsibility for the water utility between 2001 and 2006.
