After a mountain of speculation, the Anna Regina Town Council has been disbanded and an Interim Management Committee (IMC) installed.
This development occurred while Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Ganga Persaud was on a visit to the Essequibo Coast, on Wednesday.
“I wish I could have come here under better circumstances,” Persaud remarked, before disbanding the Anna Regina Town Council and duly installing an IMC of 16 people from across the region.
Persaud also said that while the town council was fully staffed and had been highly rated, over time it became exhausted and often lacked a quorum, which forced the ministry to intervene.
Tulsi Narine was installed as the new IMC chairman, while Harry Persaud will serve as deputy chairman. Other members of the IMC include Portia Jacobs, Walter Elliot, Chetram Harry Persaud, Wilton Isaacs, Gary Williams, Darshan Persaud, Muneshwar Singh, Yvonne Griffith, Joan Austin, Hakeela Khan, Ibrahim Baksh, Pooran Persaud and Rajendra Prabulall.
IMC Councillors were encouraged to be fully knowledgeable with the bylaws as well as to exercise patience and tolerance with vendors and people of the region.
