The technical staff of the Guyana national football team has announced the squad for the final two Group B 2014 World Cup Qualifiers versus Mexico and Costa Rica.
This squad was announced yesterday by national coach Jamaal Shabazz during yesterday’s press conference to update the public on the decision to play Mexico in Houston, Texas.
Members of the staff and local-based players who have been selected and have been in camp in Guyana over the past two weeks, will depart early Monday. They will link up with the foreign-based players from the respective countries.
Young goal-Keeper Derrick Carter, striker Daniel Wilson and USA-based winger Brandon Beresford, the latter two who have been on the fringes of national squad all year are the three notable new squad inclusions.
Versatile defender John “JP” Rodrigues and senior striker Carl Cort are unavailable due to crucial club commitments for their North American Soccer League (NASL) club Tampa Bay Rowdies. Similar reasons also mean experienced defender Leon Cort of English Championship Club, Charlton Athletic misses out on selection.
Guyana squad:
Richard Reynolds, Derrick Carter (Goal-Keepers), Charles Pollard, Walter Moore, Colin Nelson, Jamaal Smith (Defenders), Chris Nurse (captain), Brandon Beresford, Nick Millington, Dwight Peters, Dwain Jacobs, Kester Jacobs, Ricky Shakes, Trayon Bobb (Mid-Fielders), Gregory Richardson, Vurlon Mills, Anthony Abrams, Shawn Beveney (Strikers).
