National cycling coach Hassan Mohamed and the Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company have teamed-up to host the eighth 11-race programme today at the inner circuit of the National Park.
The event will pedal off at 9am; providing riders with another opportunity to amp up their training for the Sixth Annual Five-Stage meet set for next Thursday and Friday.
Last year’s gruelling 35-lap invitational race which is the feature event, was won by Anguilla-based Guyanese Godfrey Pollydore who clocked a time of 1:15:6. A new champion will be crowned today as Pollydore is overseas.
Last year’s winners are Neil Reece in the juveniles, Phillip Piggott in the veterans under-50 and Mario King in the upright category. This year’s race will also feature events for BMX riders.
In keeping with the tradition established over the past seven years, Hand-in-Hand will award BMX bicycles to three promising riders as its contribution to the ‘Teach Them Young’ programme. Officials from the company are expected to be on hadn to present the prizes.
