The baby girl born to Tushana Cameron, the 21-year-old who bled to death after delivering at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) on Wednesday, has been discharged and is home with her maternal grandmother.
Little Kiana Toussaint was yesterday discharged after being given a clean bill of heath by the WDRH paediatrician. She had been suffering from jaundice, an infected eye and rapid weight loss soon after birth.
An investigation is ongoing into the death of her mother, who died around mid morning on Wednesday after doctors decided to induce labour, although it had been recommended that she undergo a caesarean-section. She was a diabetic. Her autopsy determined she that she died of haemorrhagic shock.
Chief Medical Officer Shamdeo Persaud told Stabroek News that the hospital is currently “putting together documents and the hospital report” on the death, to submit to him, as is required, since a review will be conducted.
He added that the autopsy report will be added to those documents, which he will review and then pass to an Expert Committee for further review and recommendations.
