A young woman, who was allegedly found with marijuana in a bottle in her home, was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It is alleged that on October 6, in Georgetown, Ariel Khan, 18, of Lot 145 Thomas Street, Kitty, had in her possession 26 grammes of cannabis.
Khan pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of a narcotic.
Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick said that on the date in question, around 12:30 hrs, ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were on patrol when they observed Khan acting in a suspicious manner.
They followed her to Kitty at a home, where they performed a search and they discovered a white bottle containing leaves and stems suspected to be marijuana.
Khan was taken into custody and subsequently arrested and charged.
Bostwick objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and the magistrate remanded Khan to prison. She will make her next court appearance on October 10 in Court Three, when the case will be called for reports and fixtures.
