The Guyana Water Incorpora-ted (GWI) is gearing up to start the Georgetown Sewerage Rehabilitation Pro-gramme, a project that will involve civil works that will affect residents and businesses in several city wards.
In a press statement, GWI said the project, funded by the government through the Inter-American Development Bank, aims to enhance the sanitation system in Georgetown.
It will entail the excavation of roads and dismantling of bridges and as such minor traffic diversions will be instituted.
GWI said residents and businesses that operate in the following streets are likely to be affected by the operations: Waterloo Street, Smythe Street (between Sussex and Croal streets); Princes Street (between High and Camp streets); New Market Street (between East and Cummings streets); Sussex Street (between Louisa Row and Saffon Street); Foreshaw Street (between Albert and New Garden streets); Wellington Street; Light Street, Alberttown; New Market Street (between Main and Thomas streets); Hadfield Street (between High and Camp streets); Thomas Street (between New Market and Middle streets); Regent Street (between Camp Street and Avenue of the Republic); Regent Street (between Light and New Garden streets); Shiv Chanderpaul Drive and Upper Brickdam (near the 1763 Monument).
Works will also be done on Hadfield Street (between Light Street and Louisa Row); Second Street, Alberttown (between Albert and Cummings streets); Middle Street (between Thomas and East streets); Louisa Row; Sussex Street (between Smythe Street and Louisa Row); Fifth Street, Alberttown; Quamina Street (between Main and Camp streets); Laluni Street (between Albert and New Garden streets); Middle Street and Thomas Street (between Quamina and New Market streets).
GWI anticipates partnering with all stakeholders towards the success of this project and gives assurances that any private property damaged during operations will be repaired by the contractors.
