Ricardo Rodrigues who turned himself into police after a wanted bulletin was issued for him in connection with the recent Lethem arms bust was yesterday released on station bail according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud.
Persaud told Stabroek News when contacted that Rodrigues is required to report to police at stipulated times. He said that the other man, Clive King called `Bora’ who is also wanted in connection with the arms discovery is still at large.
Around 3 pm last week Monday ranks raided a house at Tabatinga, and found 10 automatic rifles along with matching ammunition, two shrapnel hand grenades; one Icon VHF radio set; one Icon hand-held radio set; and one roll of camouflage material.
Police subsequently arres-ted Benedict Thompson and a woman who has been identified as King’s wife. Thompson was later slapped with four charges. Thompson is his employee.
Since the incident King has kept a low profile and according to sources in Lethem, he may be hiding out there. Rodrigues’ lawyer Glen Hanoman had moved to the court hours after he was held seeking his release.
However Chief Justice Ian Chang made the case returnable for yesterday morning at which time the police were required to justify why he should not be released.
