Dear Editor,
I wish to advise the letter writer in SN of 2012-10-08 Hilman Henry that the area he referred to as “Confusion Square” has already been renamed “Jurassic Park” by many, including vendors, pedestrians, drivers and other “ residents” who eek out their daily existence in that area.
Hilman Henry has correctly outlined the boundaries, the Demerara River being the western extremity.
A long time ago in my adolescent years, my aunt took me for walks in the Stabroek area on Saturday evenings to see the yellow buses, to window shop, and to observe City Council workers and Fire Service personnel wash the entire Stabroek Market Square, including “donkey city”.
It is sad to now witness the filth, garbage, the perpetual stench of urine, the congestion which is permitted in front of the Fire Station, and the vagrants who comfortably relax any time of day or night around Parliament Building.
A check by anyone day or night will reveal that the most popular business venture in this “confusion square” is the sale of cooked food and or food items.
With no public convenience other than what is available at Demico House, the inhabitants of the “park” may tend to relieve themselves wherever they choose.
Like in the classic film “Jurassic Park”, the bigger animals exist with little concern for lesser breeds. In our “Jurassic Park”, the “unconcerned bigger animals” meet regularly to make laws.
Can they do something to retain the Stabroek Ward as I knew it way back when?
Yours faithfully,
S. A. Scott
