CENTURION, South Africa, CMC – Rain ruined an inconsequential game between Trinidad and Tobago and Sri Lankan champions Uva in the qualifying stage of the champion’s league in South Africa yesterday.
Both teams were already eliminated but a Johannesburg storm forced play to be abandoned after the Red Force posted a strong 181 for 3.
T&T motored to 86 for 3 as a result of an encouraging start from William Perkins and Lendl Simmons compensating for disastrous performances Wednesday.
Simmons scored 34 before he was bowled by Umar Gul while Perkins who was bowled by Senanayake scored 32.
Denesh Ramdin and Darren Bravo, who were at the centre of T & T’s batting resurgence against Yorkshire Wednesday, were also among the runs against Uva.
They built on a platform this time and pushed their side comfortably to the highest score of the qualifying stage as each of the final six overs went for ten or more.
Bravo struck 9 fours and was not out on 54 while Ramdin was undefeated on 50 after hitting 6 fours.
Uva’s run chase suffered a setback in as early as the first ball of the innings as Dilshan Munaweere upper-cut a catch to third man.
The drizzle then intensified forcing the players off the field and the storm did not letup in time for the game to resume.
Both teams have been eliminated after losing to English County side Yorkshire, the unbeaten team in the pool of three, which has progressed to the next stage of the competition.
