-installing street lamps on Waterloo St Ave
John Lewis Styles is celebrating its ninth anniversary with donations valued $500,000 to NGOs and it plans to install street lights on a section of the Waterloo Street Avenue as it aims to restore the aesthetic beauty of the area.
In a press release the store said since 2007 it has made donations of $100,000 to five NGOs annually to help them fulfil their mandates. This year’s beneficiaries are the Guyana Relief Council, Guyana Kids First Fund, NCN Radio’s Needy Children’s Fund, the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation centre and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Georgetown. “We recognise the hard work and dedication each organisation exhibits on all projects and we are pleased to be associated with their efforts,” the store said.
Also, since it relocated to Waterloo Street in November, John Lewis Styles has embarked on a beautification project on a section of the avenue between Quamina and Church streets as part of its corporate social responsibility programme. The store has organised a monthly maintenance crew to keep the avenue clean and provide private garbage collection. It said the Waterchris Hotel has joined in its efforts to maintain the aesthetic beauty of the area. John Lewis Styles also plans to repair and install 12 additional MV lamps complete with extension arms for ample street lighting. It is hoped that this endeavour will make traversing the area safer and easier at nights and help remove the stigma that has been attached to it.
