Bike thief shot at teen who ID’d him -court hears

Two men, who allegedly opened fire on a teenager after he identified them as the persons who stole another man’s bicycle, were yesterday remanded to prison.
It is alleged that Deon Charles and Kester King, discharged a loaded firearm at Romario Nurse, with intent to mane, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.

Deon Charles
Kester King,

The men both pleaded not guilty to the offence when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Winneth Hubbard stated that on September 30, Charles was seen removing a bicycle and riding off with it. Hubbard said Nurse later advised the owner that his bike was stolen by Charles and he directed him to where he lived.

According to Hubbard, later that day, Charles and King walked up to Nurse and King discharged a number of rounds at him from a gun.
Nurse then reported the matter to the police and the men were arrested and charged.

Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented both Charles and King, said the charge against his clients was a “fabricated” one, while claiming that Nurse demanded money from the defendants and “made up a lie to police” because he did receive the sum he requested.

Hubbard objected to bail due to seriousness of the charge. As a result, the men were remanded until October 24.
