SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, CMC- Guyana, which has already been eliminated, take on CONCACAF giants Costa Rica in the third round of the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers, at the Estadio National de Costa Rica, this evening.
The Golden Jaguars will be hoping to end their campaign on a winning note following their 0-5 drubbing at the hands of another CONCACAF giant, Mexico on Friday.
National head coach Jamaal Shabazz, who missed Friday’s game in Texas, says his players are keen on signing off their campaign on a positive note.
“Today (tomorrow) we end our campaign with a desire to do our best” said Shabazz.
“The entire journey has been eye opening and enlightening which has had it’s high and low moments”.
Guyana was able to hold the Mexicans to a nil nil scoreline at the interval but then faced an onslaught in the second half as Mexico moved safely into the next round.
Costa Rica enters the game on the back of an important 1-0, away victory against El Salvador on Friday.
The Costa Ricans need a victory against the Jaguars to join Mexico in next year’s Hexagon phase.
“We are determined to see it through to the end” insisted Shabazz as he looks ahead to the clash.
“We have seen we can compete, but to sustain our efforts we need more tactical discipline and focus on the task”.
Team captain Chris Nurse will miss the game after picking up his second yellow card of the qualifiers during the Mexico game.
