The Guyana Draught Association (GDA) will stage its annual National Championships on Saturday and Sunday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
There will be play in three categories namely the “A, “B and “C categories with the “B and “C categories being contested on Saturday
while the following day the top six qualifiers from the “B category will join the “A players to contest the “A” Class championship.
Most of the top draughts players in the country are expected to compete in this tournament including the defending “A” Class champion Carlton Simon who is expected to face stiff challenge from former champion Elton Lambert and form player Khemraj Pooranmall.
While “B” Class champion E. Grandison is expected to defend his title the “C’ Class will be wide open with two-time winner Shawn Weekes moving up to the “B’ category.
Trophies for this year’s event are being donated by the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
