Slowe made the announcement at last Sunday’s presentation ceremony for the West Indies fullbore championships at Camp Ayanganna and WIFSC Secretary Ryan Sampson confirmed yesterday when contacted by Stabroek Sport.

Sampson said it will be the biggest shooting event ever to be staged in the region with teams expected from Australia, Canada, United States of America and Great Britain among other teams.

The shooting championships will take place in May next year during the regional tournament.

Slowe has been a regular member of the Guyana and West Indies team over the years and also served as manager of Guyana shooting team to the Commonwealth Games.

Slowe, a security expert who is currently attached to the West Indies Cricket Board also served as coach and shooter during the just concluded Regional championships at Timehri rifle ranges where the local team  made a clean sweep of titles at the event.

The West Indies is expected to field a 10-member team for next year’s event and the shooters will be identified during the West Indies fullbore tournament in Bridgetown.

Should Guyana’s top four shooters at this year‘s championships Lennox Braithwaite, Mahendra Persaud, Dylan Fields and Ransford Goodluck maintain form they are likely to be named on the squad.

Six countries – Antigua/Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago took part in the just concluded tournament.
